Average rating: Stars
Stars I agree with that first review
I totaly agree with the first review, the machine is solid and powerfull. The ONLY problem it has is the weight and size of the machine and the AC adapter, beyond that its just not a big deal. Batterry life isnt that long but its long enough to do plenty of work.

Unlike the other reviewer I do make use of the T.V. option. Acctually these computer became my TV, Radio, DVD player, Lap Top, desk top... its perfect for me. And the keyboard configuration is defenetly a GREAT feature, I know it sounds dull but for people that work with number like me its something that really healps, those tiny keyboards frome other lap tops are so anoying!

If you want a lap top that works like a desk top and dont mind carrying the weight like me, these is for ya'. And you can go as far a 2Gb of Ram to make the good even better.

Ok where do I start? I recently needed a laptop, I wanted it to be powerful to serve the pupose, I am a physics PhD student, deal with whole lot of computing so I knew I needed a very fast notebook, I also assume that most people out there generaly like fast responsive machines...so I did my homework very well. I was a Dell notebooks lover for a longtime until I started getting tired of their design and fluctuating prices, also they don't make Pentium 4 no more. I looked at their notebooks in the 17 inches category, there was the XPS generation2 and the inspiron 9300, the XPS is overpriced as always and I didn't like the 9300 small keyboard layout plus you have to pay over $2000 to maximize the processor, tha RAM, the video card etc...everyone I knew had a dell but I decided to stick with Pentium 4, I don't care much about the weight or the battery life; the notebook will be plugged to the outlet most of the time weither at home ar at my office so battery is not big of an issue for me. I started looking at HP, went one day to circuitcity and there was an HP zd8xxx, I said in my mind; a notebook could not look any better!! true sharp display visible from any angle! fully integrated keyboard, silver and black look is so sexy, plus it had pwerful components...came home & started my search adventure, this baby is heavy but worth every penny for me, sounds like every only cares about gaming, TV recording which is what this laptop is for but I don't give a S.. about that part, what is wrong with people these days! I just want a machine that is fast; will speed my productivity, run my work related programs which can take days sometime to execute the whole numerical code; so I was postive I needed a machine that is not buit to deceive. Customized mine through HP.com with the following:

- FREE Upgrade DVD+/-RW/R CD-RW Combo w/Double Layer
- 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) X600

Got my laptop; to my surprise it didn't have too many junk programs like the dell usually put on, was worried about the heat the loud fan as some mentioned, there is definetly higher heat that what a pentium M would have but it is not a prominent issue, as for the fan, I am not experiencing any loud noticable noise so peace! I don't have any remorse whatsoever, looks absolutely fantastic and the 17 inch bright wide view is excellent, all kinds of port and buttons for multimedia purpose...If you understand the weight issue but would like a powerful machine look no further than the HP zd8000 series. The AC adapter is huge but you know what? get you a spare one and keep one at home and the other one at work so you don't have to be carrying it around. I had t carrying cases and bags but none fit! there are only couple of back back on the market that would fit; try the targus Model # TXL617 or the mobile edge premium. Chatted with customer service and tech support couple of times and the level of service is excellent, you just need to be corteous yourself and if you have any problem I am sure they can help issue part replacment if needed, their warranty is definetly good. They also have 24-7 chat line where you can talk to either tech support or customer care...I will never go back to Dell! get your hand on one of these before everyone decide to discontiune Pentium 4 and make sure you get you pentium 6xx not 5xx for future windows 64bit compatibility....hope my review is helpful; I wrote it because I was dying to read reviews about it before I buy, I know there are peole out there very reluctant about what to get it but you know what? you can't go wrong with this monster laptop!
