Stars Huh?!!!!
I got this player because of its great reviews. Blows away any mp3 hard drive player. one person said that. yeah, right. I got mine 7 months ago. now when you start it up it makes wierd scratchy and popping sounds. Other people have had this problem too. I'm goin out to get a Creative Labs Zen Micro 5 gb.

Stars Another excellent product from Sony!
I purchased this product as a replacement to my previous-generation entry-level Sony CD Walkman, the D-E350. I was not interested in purchasing an MP3 player, though Creative Lab's Zen Micro has me drooling, so I decided to purchase a MP3 CD player.

Upon using it, I was in awe of the amount of songs I can play on it. I can fit over 120 MP3 songs, most of them encoded at 192 kbps. Mind you, this is without using Sonic Stage, just burning MP3s from my My Music folder to a blank CD-RW. 650-700 MB for music is a lot more space than other flash memory MP3 players offer, and I can put with the added space of a portable CD player; haven't we all been carrying them for 15+ years?

As for the controls, they are good, but take some getting used to coming from an older-generation Sony CD player. My only gripes are the flimsy construction of the center "jog-dial" style button, as if feels as if it'll fall off with an inconvenient bump.

The radio is only acceptable, and my cell phone, a Nokia 6800 with FM radio built-in, offers much better reception. The sound is almost always fuzzy, with static abound, which is exascerbated when you move about. I honestly bought the CD player with radio just to listen to NPR news programs in the mornings and afternoons, and the reception makes me just shut it off and reach for my cell phone.

The sonic stage software is absolutely atrocious, it is not user-friendly and extremely slow. It's easier to bite the bullet on not getting the much-vaunted 490 songs and use Windows to burn your MP3 collection to a CD-R.

This is a good CD MP3 Player, just ignore the ATRAC3plus moniker emblazoned on the top and you'll be fine. Where I am, they discontinued this model, so I'm curious to see what improvements Sony is cooking up.

Stars Great Value, Great Product
Since I got this player worth almost $70 for less than $40 on Amazon with Free shipping (don't ask how), I can't really complain. The product is a typical SONY. Stable and smooth.
It plays MP3s, Audio CDS, and has a Radio too (which I didn't find in any of the other brands I looked at).
Some people may complain that it does not support WMA files, but I wouldn't count it as a con.
The headphone is not really great and has a very short cord. I would suggest sticking to your earphones or getting a decent headphone.
But the one that came with the player is good for short distance listening, like in Airplanes/Airports, etc.

It also has a Power outlet, which is always a PLUS. My Weather band hasn't really worked, but that may be due to the location of my residence.
The only CON I see is that there is NO way to turn OFF the CD player. I've had to switch to the Radio from CD and then turn off the Radio. May be there is a way to switch off the CD player, but I haven't seen it or it's not as obvious.
Some people were complaining that the player was hard to figure out, but I found it pretty easy to operate. Sound quality is very good and it gives you a decent amount of options to set the sound. All and all, it is a very good player, and even if I had to pay $69, I would be happy.
