Amazingly fast re-wind and fast-forward |
I got this as a replacement for my decades-old machine (it was one of two choices for stand-alone VCRs in the mega electronics store I went to). I am already amazed at how fast it rewinds, both with the play button on and off. The speed beats any VCR I've seen.
The commercial skip feature is a neat gimmick. It only skips one commercial at a time, though, so I find it easier just to hold the fast forward button down and use my own judgement.
I don't know why this has such a wide body. The description says that it is to mesh in with your other home electronics. It seems wasteful to me, but maybe it is an elegant design that other people like.
It delivers on this "must have": a set of input jacks on the front of the model for my gameing console. |

AVOID the Sony SLV-N750 VHS - Poor Image Quality! Cheaply Made!! |
My beloved older JVC VCR got dropped and died, putting me suddenly into the market for a replacement VCR. I immediatly noted a severe drop in quality of most VCRs now sold!! Especially if you want to buy a stand-alone model without a DVD. Having purchased and loved Sony products before new, used and refurbished, it was dissappointing to see such poor workmanship from the Sony SLV-N750 VCR. First off, the picture quality as mentioned by others is very, very poor. I noticed the lack of clarity, brightness and contrast against my 5 year old JVC model I'd had. Tapes tested (new and old) looked blurred with a slight white cast.
Also annoying is the cheap feel of the device overall, and delicate jack connections in the back. I thought the prongs were going to break off in my hand the first time I inserted the connection cable!! I found the jacks flimsy and clearly not built hold up to even average use. Gone are the days were the jacks and back panels are sturdy, made with metal facings/backings. Some of the current JVC and other models still have metal back panels.
Additionally, I found the wide case somewhat annoying. What a waste of space! A more compact, stronger case would have been preferred. I found the tracking useless, and the tape counter of the SLV-N750 does not have second increments. And the remote did not seem well organized or intuitive to use. The "twist" style PLAY knob did not work well, or seem durable. I felt the overall quality of this model lacking, but the poor image quality was the kicker - especially for a brand new device -- foretelling an even dimmer future literally!!!
With receipt in hand, I returned it very next day! Informing the manager about the poor quality and workmanship. They tested it, made no further comment and refunded me in full. I ended up purchasing a used JVC HR-VP674U which works great as my old one did 'till it got dropped! Look into the JVC brands (even the older models such as the JVC HR-VP674U) which still have the superior tracking/ recording heads. Or find studio grade models in other brands - as quality is really lacking in the new consumer models. |

Worst VCR |
| This has got to be the worst VCR sony has.... The audio portion of this VCR is it's biggest downfall but the video section isn't much better...My advise-- by an Emerson or something cheaper, it has to be better than this...... |
