JVC HANC100 Noise Cancelling Headphones

Average rating: Stars
Stars Good for price
These headphones are very decent for their 50 dollar price tag. The only thing that bothers me about these headphones is that the ear pieces are a little small and go ON TOP of my ear lobes, which causes discomfort after a while, whereas the Bose Quiet Comfort 2 headphones go around the ears, making them more comfortable. Although the Bose is six times the price of the JVC, the Bose has much superior noise cancellation and the sound quality is much better than the JVC's. I am satisfied with my JVC, but if you want the best noise cancelling headphones in the market, get the Bose.

Stars Did not perform as advertised.
I returned the JVC HANC100 Noise Cancelling Headphones within a week of my purchase. The noise cancelling function only amplified the outside sounds. When using the headphones with my MP3 player, I had to increase the volume to an unacceptable level to hear the music. I have purchased many products from amazon.com and this is the first I have ever returned. I unfortunately can't recommend the JVC HANC100 Noise Cancelling Headphones.

Stars Much better than expected
I bought these headphones to use at work. It's a very typical "cubicle" environment with people talking, phones ringing, etc. The ambient noise can be very distracting. I like to listen to Internet radio at work, and wanted a good pair of ANC (active noise-cancelling) headphones to help control the noise.

With the switch "Off" I can still hear people talking, photocopiers running, etc. With the switch "On" most of that noise simply goes away. Yes, there's a little hiss in both ears, but it's not noticeable over the music. The earcups themselves filter a great deal of the clutter, but the ANC takes care of the majority of the rest.

One of the best things with this set is that there's no "pod" for the battery. The single AAA battery fits into one of the ear pieces. Many other headphones add a battery pod to the cable, which can get in the way.

The only things you should be aware of is that these headphones are clearly designed for travel. For desk use, the earcups fold up a bit too easily, making the headphones harder to put on than "fixed" earcups. Also, the cord is very thin, and feels fragile. Don't know how well they'll hold up to daily use, but I'm very pleased with this purchase.
