This printer is great we have several in our office for the employees that handle confidential records. It fits nicely on the desk top and is easy to install.

Easy to install, print quality is great

I replaced a Canon Bubblejet S330 with the HP 5500 when the Cannon print heads died after about 2 years.

I read the reviews here and got nervous when I saw people complaining about installation problems. They mostly seemed to regard Windows systems though so let me say that on my Mac OSX 2.8 it was a mindless snap. I just followed the instruction sheet provided and within about 5 minutes I was printing my first page, and it was beautiful! Much better than the old Cannon BJ.

So far, I'm a happy camper. My first HP (Deskwriter 500) lasted over 6 years and was still going strong when I donated it along with my computer to a school. But it had also cost me $300. In general, printers don't seem to last as long these days so I guess I won't be surprised if I only get 2 or 3 years out of this one. For the price with all the features, I figure I can't go wrong.

A Great Printer! (but it could be better)

I love this printer enough that we got one for my parents, too. The print quality is good, papers come out fast, and the fax and scanner work pretty well.

The two reasons I didn't give it 5 stars:
1. I often have a hard time printing labels with the Avery templates that came with Word Perfect. I get an error message that says the printer doesn't have the right driver.
2. It's probably b/c the printer is hooked up to a DSL line, the phone, and an answering machine, but sometimes faxes don't come through.
