Decent sound, poor reliability |
Bought mine in November. Got an intermittant connection in right earbud 4 months later. Since it was outside of the 90 day parts and labor warranty, paid $28 + shipping to replace. Replacement set has same problem and wondering if they just shipped me my same set back....
Sound quality is fine. Noise cancellation is good on flights as long as you have a tight fit. Adds a bit of hiss. Takes a while to get used to ear canal fit - but much easier on ears than Apple earbuds. |

Short Product Lifetime |
I purchased these in January 2005 for $99. As soon as I received them, I realized that they had a problem with the design: there is not adequate strain relief on the wires where they enter the battery box, thus putting them in the carrying bag and removing them frequently would eventually cause the wires to be damaged. I contatced Sony about this on January 15th and they gave me some stock answer like "Sony is continuously looking at ways to upgrade their products" (which means "you outta luck, sucka"). Mine failed right when I needed them the most: when I left on vacation on June 19th.
I contacted Sony today about a replacement. It will cost me $27 plus shipping to have them replaced with a refurbished pair, which will probably last only another 6 months. Not likely that I will take them up with it. I only used these about 3 times per week on average so, for someone who uses them more frequently, they would have a much shorter lifetime.
The sound quality was okay; the noise cancelling was rarely used as it really only helps filter low frequency rumble such as airplane or automobile noise. |

To improve the ear fit |
| I bought these earbuds last week and found it quite difficult to keep them in my ears only for an hour. However, I could greatly improved the ear fit by replacing the ear pieces with Shure PA852S Small Foam Sleeves. It is worth trying! |
