Slow and unstable |
The BEFCMU10 (Version 3.0) cable modem is not Linksys' best product. It is unstable (requires a reset about twice a week) and has long latency under high traffic. I was running a Voice Over IP connection over this cable modem. I had poor performance and poor reliability.
Replaced this with a Motorola Surfboard SB5120. The SB5120 performs much better with much lower latency. Greatly improves the quality of my VOIP service and never requires a reset.
Wait for a new release (version 4.0?) or buy a SB5120. |

Tech support nightmare |
| In future, I am going to check out tech support BEFORE I buy anything. I am so sick of getting someone in INDIA I could puke. Difficult to understand, even more difficult to hear. Nothing against the techs, they need a job too, but all these greedy American Companies using that near-slave labor can count on me to not be their customer. The product works well once installed, but I wish now I had just kept the one my cable company had me on. I wasted an entire day on this business. I could've been planning a trip to India or something. |

Your problems are probably not with the modem!!! |
I have been using this Linksys cable modem on Comcast cable for over two months now, and I could not be more pleased with it.
The ONLY difficulty I had was reading the awfully TINY mac numbers with the G's looking like 6's - but this was cleared up in a fairly short time. I put it on a 2.0 USB port and it has been flying...
Any subsequent problems have all had to do with the operating system (XP Pro w/SP2) or with some particular program - none were concerning the modem or Comcast. In fact, they have been so helpful it has been a real pleasure to talk to them. |
